I was looking for a rear rack for my DR and didn't really see anything that grabbed my attention. I wanted something light and simple that I could strap a tail bag to yet be strong enough to mount a case to if desired.
Since I like making things, thought I give it a go at making my own. I dug around in my scrap pile and found a length of 1/2 4130 that my late father in law had left over from one of the airplane he had built. I borrowed a 1/2 bender and started doing stuff.
A few more bends...
A weld and a grind or two later, I had the basic shape.

I cut two lengths of tubing and saddled them out to fit inside the the thing I just built.

After making a couple spacers to get the clearance and angle where I wanted, I taped them to the thing I made and set it on the bike... TLAR.

Now, I need someway to keep it from falling off the bike when I rode. Didn't figure Duct Tape would cut it so thought I'd use the mounting points where the Grab Handles bolted and make some bits to bolt there.
I dug back in the scrap and found some 3/4 stock, cut four 1" lengths and went over and played on one of my shop toys and produced these...

With them mounted, it's time to fab a couple struts and tack them in place...

Guess I need a place to mount the turn signals so I split some 1.5 square tubing an ended up with a pair of these...

Built a jig to keep everything in place so I can take it and a rack of Miller Lite to a buddy to coax him to fire up his TIG...
